DEPTH OF EXPerIENCE

I am a graduate of William Mitchell School of Law (1986) and the University of Minnesota at Mankato (1981.) I started my career at a leading regional accounting firm where I served as a tax manager specializing in start-up and development stage companies, the valuation of closely held companies, estate planning, tax planning for high net-worth individuals and deferred compensation plans for small businesses.

In 1987 I became the Chief Operating Office and Chief Financial Officer for companies under the investment umbrella of Group C, Inc. Companies operated included a direct marketing company, a wholesale and consumer trading company, a significant international industrial distribution company, a number of large real estate ventures, and multiple technology companies.

Starting in the late 1990's, I also began to take on lead financial and advisory roles with entrepreneurial start up companies.  This led to the opportunity to lead the financial development of some exciting growth companies including one that went from start up to sale for $300 million, and another that went from start-up through IPO.

Key projects have included:

RocketChips, Inc a private semiconductor company.   I served as the assistant to the CFO. I held a leading financial role as the Company raised $15M in private equity funding from private and institutional investors.  I supported all financial functions from systems set-up through accounting and tax preparation, private placement memorandum preparation, shareholder records management and more, additionally working through the company's sale to Xilinx (public) for over $300M.

A private scientific software tool company serving the optical design markets. I served as part-time CFO and supported the company’s $11M equity funding from private and institutional investors, supported all financial aspects from systems set-up through accounting and tax preparation, private placement memorandum preparation, shareholder records management and more.  At exit, I provided the financial services required for its merger with another private company.

MathStar, Inc, a private to public semiconductor company. I served as part time CFO offering all CFO level services through multiple rounds of private financing, raising $80M in equity prior to the Company's IPO and the end of my engagement.

A private SaaS online bid optimization software tool company.  I was engaged as interim CFO from original start-up providing all CFO level services as above, and I supported funding rounds raising $10M from private, institutional and eventually venture capital investors.

Currently serving as interim or part time CFO for a technology marketing company, an online B2B software tool company, and a Big Data/cognitive computing analytics software company.
